Lenten Midweek Worship

Lenten Midweek Worship at Messiah occurs each Wednesday (March 8, 15, 22, 29, & April 5). After a simple Soup Supper in the fellowship hall at 6:30, we move to the sanctuary for a brief worship service at 7:30.

This year’s theme is Songs of the Cross. We’ll have special music that includes the following hymns:

  • Were You There
  • Beneath the Cross of Jesus
  • To Mock Your Reign, Dearest Lord
  • There is a Green Hill Far Away
  • The Old Rugged Cross

Lenten Bible Study

Throughout history, pride has been recognized as the deadliest of vices. Today, it is almost celebrated as a virtue. Pride and arrogance are conspicuous among the rich, the powerful, the famous, and even some religious leaders. It is also alive and well in each of us. Yet few of us realize how dangerous it is to our souls and how greatly it hinders our intimacy with God and others. Humility, on the other hand, is often seen as weakness, and few of us know much about it or pursue it. The Bible is filled with stories of prideful people causing great harm to others, their communities, and themselves. How do we forsake the one and embrace the other?

Join us for a Lenten Bible study to learn more about pride and humility. We’ll study stories from Scripture that bear an amazing resemblance to situations occurring in our world and our lives today.

We’ll meet on six Mondays, beginning February 15. Choose the 10 AM or 7 PM class. Sign-up sheets are located near the card ministry table. All are welcome!

It’s Not About the Jelly!

Messiah’s continued contributions to Kudvumisa Foundation provide much-needed program funding to the Community Health Intervention Programme Swaziland (CHIPS). CHIPS, which has long focused on HIV, is now helping families facing other health issues such as diabetes, hypertension, and soon malaria. A full-time nurse (US citizen) has joined the staff to help specifically with children’s health while at the same time developing and mentoring the local CHIPS staff.

We are grateful for Messiah family’s generous support of Kudvumisa Foundation again this year. Time, talent, and coins were offered freely to ensure that our annual fundraiser (THAT’s about the jelly!) was ready to launch after months of picking and days of juicing and jelly making at the Chester county Food Bank kitchen. This year’s jelly production fundraiser was also sponsored in part by Thrivent Financial. Thanks to Thrivent Financial members for their support.

Help continue the mission by purchasing your 2017 supply (peach, grape, blackberry, and red raspberry jelly) for your family. Jelly also makes a perfect gift for the holiday season!
